We hosted a Career Panel at the Cleveland Park DC Public Library in February as part of our initiative to provide more career development opportunities for young professionals and students. Our panelists included Dr. Emma Locatelli (AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellow), Dr. Lynn Wingard (Research Geologist & Project Chief with the USGS), Ms. Robin Petrusak (Petroleum Geologist with Advanced Resources International), and Ms. Laura Szymanski (GSA Science Policy Fellow). The panel was moderated by Madeline Shaffer. We had a very lively discussion that covered a wide variety of topics, including challenges in the workplace, the importance of maintaining geological collections, how to get started in science policy, recommended practices for job applying/searching, and general advice for those with growing careers. Our chapter received excellent feedback for the event, and we look forward to hosting another in the next year!
