We had a great time taking one of DC’s Girl Scout Brownies troops out for a nature and geology hike in Rock Creek Park as part of their Hiking Badge experience! Rock Creek has an extensive geological and natural history, and the girls were excited to locate different types of rocks, find animal tracks, and climb on everything in sight. Once particularly good specimen was a large outcrop of metamorhposed basement rock (gneiss), that was embedded with large garnets. The girls climbed all over that, too!
